Product Description

Specialized safety glasses are perfect for beadmaking and other lampworking activities using soft (Effetre) glass. These glasses protect your eyes AND allow you to see variations in flame and glass color that other shaded safety glasses block out. Our staff experts say that seeing these different shades of color make it much easier to achieve the effects you want in your creations! The Phillips 202: ACE is a new material that utilizes rare earth oxides to provide unique color enhancing characteristics; it's an advanced version of didymium glasses. Not recommended for borosilicate work. Note: Lens color may vary while still providing the same level of protection.

So I bought these for doing some lab glass work on a project at the suggestion of my thesis advisor. They worked great. What I discovered afterwards is that the coating was developed by Sir William Crookes. This special optical coating project was the last project he worked on. For me there is a special connection to these glasses as once again they lend life to the inventor's punning motto, "Ubi Crux Ibi Lux."The one negative to these glasses was that the frame was a little "wonky" as in twisted/not straight. I was able to work them into alignment and didn't have any problems after a bit.I would recommend these glasses to anyone working with open flame as they render the normally invisible portions of the flame visible which helps to prevent accidents.
